Executive Director – The Washington Ballet

The Executive Director of The Washington Ballet will co-lead the organization with Artistic Director Edwaard Liang, with both reporting to and working collaboratively with the Board of Directors. Competitive candidates will have leadership experience in the nonprofit performing arts, with the ability to build relationships throughout the community and foster a culture of communication and collaboration with the AD and staff. Compensation Amount

The salary range for this position begins at $235,000 and benefits will be competitive with other ballet companies of comparable size and stature. The Company hopes to make its decision by Q2 of 2026, with the successful candidate onsite by the opening of the 2026-27 Season.

Organizational Profile

Now in its 80th year as an organization, The Washington Ballet (TWB) grew out of the success of The Washington School of Ballet, founded and directed for years by legendary dance pioneer Mary Day and her mentor Lisa Gardiner. In the 2026-2027 season, TWB is poised to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the performing company from a place of financial stability and compelling artistry.
