Life's A Pitch

For immediate release: the arts are marketable

In the criminal justice system, coloratura-based offenses are considered especially heinous

February 23, 2011 by Amanda Ameer

Oh, happy day! This very evening, Life’s a Pitch’s second-favorite soprano (favorite whom we don’t work for) will appear on The Best Show On Television, aka Law & Order: SVU.

ReneeFlemingLawAndOrder3.jpgBack in January, TheaterMania and other sites reported that Renée Fleming would be appearing on an episode in February:

Tony Award nominee Kate Burton will guest star on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
in February. The episode will also feature a cameo appearance by opera
star Renee Fleming, as well as a guest appearance by Countess LuAnn De
Lesseps.

Then today, this site posted the following:

“The Real Housewives of New York City’s” LuAnn De Lesseps will guest
star tonight on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” [10PM ET/PT]
along with acclaimed actress Kate Burton, with a special cameo
appearance by opera star Renée Fleming.

In tonight’s new episode titled “Bully,” Burton [“The Good Wife,”
“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Law & Order”] will guest star as a high-powered
executive whose business partner is murdered. LuAnn will play a
socialite who makes a gruesome discovery and Fleming will make a
special voice over cameo as the opera-singing mother of a suspect.

So tonight’s the night tonight’s the night tonight’s the night! Tune in at 10pm EST. Duh-dun-doo-doo-doo-do-do.

Everyone knows that the most famous celebrity guest on Law & Order is the One Who Did It. A friend once pointed out that the same could be said of Sex and the City if the “it” was Sarah Jessica Parker.

Update, 2/24: There seems to be a disconnect, here. Despite the blog and Twitter buzz, Renée Tweeted this evening:

It’s all very confusing, but it was exciting while it lasted? It’s also especially disappointing, because according to the ~Blogosphere~, this is how the episode ended:

In the end, we found out that the victim only appeared drunk, but there
was no alcohol in her stomach. That’s because the killer used an old
trick to make it look like she was drinking: He shoved a champagne
bottle up her rear end and got her drunk through the backdoor. No,
seriously, the entire case came down to the fact that you can get
drunker faster and without the booze breath by ingesting it rectally.
This naturally led to the son of an opera singer, because the
detectives knew that to save their voices, opera singers would often
use the backdoor to get drunk.

Now don’t say you never learned anything here on Life’s a Pitch.

… I guess I’m glad I missed this L&O:SVU episode (and am hoping that the show’s premise that opera singers often use the backdoor to get drunk is…er… mistaken). ;oP
