Life's A Pitch

For immediate release: the arts are marketable

If you h8 your job…

August 25, 2010 by Amanda Ameer

A few marketing/PR jobs have been forwarded to me, so I thought I’d post them, since you’re all presumably interested in such subjects (and if you’re not, what are you doing here??).

The first is from my client, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Fair warning: if you get this job, you will have to work with me.

Job Title: Communications Manager

Job Description
The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra seeks a driven and creative Communications Manager to lead and oversee all Marketing and Public Relations initiatives. The Manager, with the assistance of the Subscription and Office Coordinator and external Publicist, will plan, supervise, administer and evaluate all marketing activities, including but not limited to: public relations, advertising, season subscription and renewal campaigns, ticket sales, subscriber activities, and branding. The candidate will need to be adept at cross-functional thinking, multi-tasking, high-level strategy and timely, efficient execution. Strong collaboration with and support of other internal departments (e.g. Development, Education, etc.) and with all presenting partners is a necessity. A foundation in marketing principles, arts marketing experience, budgeting, and extensive customer service experience are all required.

Candidate Profile and Requirements
Skilled, creative, collaborative, opinionated, good communicator, strategic thinker, and persuasive. 4-7 years marketing/communication/performing arts experience required.

To Apply
Send cover letter and resume to marketing (at) orpheusnyc (dot) org. Email only. Due to volume, telephones inquiries cannot be accepted. Orpheus is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

This one is from my colleagues over at 21C Media Group, ostensibly The Competition, but we’re all actually friends, so there’s no terribly exciting drama.

Job Title: New Media Coordinator

Job Description
The New Media Coordinator will report directly to the Director of
Marketing and Special Projects and will be responsible for implementing
the digital marketing and new media campaigns for a roster of clients.
Specific responsibilities will include overseeing web site development
projects, executing daily the clients’ digital marketing plans and
online editorial schedules, writing copy and posting updates to
clients’ web sites and social media pages, drafting and sending client
e-newsletters, maintaining materials for digital marketing clients, and
liaising with clients and their representatives to ensure a consistent
image and message. In addition, this person will supervise an intern
for the division and provide administrative support as needed to the
Director of Marketing and Special Projects.

Candidate Profile and Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess excellent writing skills and a strong
knowledge of classical music. While familiarity with HTML and web
design software is not necessary, a general ‘tech savviness’ and
understanding of popular social media platforms are required. We are
looking for a bright, organized, detail-oriented individual with at
least two years of professional experience. Familiarity with photo and
video editing, a basic understanding of HTML, and fluency in one or
more foreign languages are all pluses.

Benefits
This is a full-time, entry-level position with a competitive salary and benefits package.

To Apply
Applicants should send a résumé, cover letter, and two writing samples (at least 300 words each) via email to jobs (at) 21cmediagroup (dot) com. No phone calls, please. Only applicants invited to interview will be contacted.

Look at all the accents they have on “resume”! I don’t even know where those keys are.

This was forwarded to me yesterday. It’s from the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, with whom I worked when I was at IMG Artists.
