Life's A Pitch

For immediate release: the arts are marketable

I want your love and all your lovers’ revenge

March 5, 2010 by Amanda Ameer

In addition to the Lady Gaga comparisons over at OperaChic, here are a few of my own thoughts on Angela Gheorghi’s new press photos.

The Elvira:

And last but not least, The Chocolate Factory:

Most commenters over at OperaChic are Not Pleased, adding thoughts like, “Nobody is teaching these donnas how to age gracefully and with dignity,” “Good God, whatever was the poor woman THINKING of?” and “Sometimes after a breakup women go through a phase of trying too hard!” to the post.  Others were thrilled, though, writing in, “This is fabulous. Maybe I should fly somewhere to see Angela” and “I love
it. I’m sick of Netrebko and Renee doing the floaty butterfly Mariah
Carey look. This is actually cool, trendy, and edgy. Viva Angela.”

Without knowing what this shoot is for (a CD cover? general press use? an online-only portfolio?) I won’t comment on its effectiveness, but I disagree that this is a case of “trying too hard.”  Gheorghi looks perfectly comfortable, which is more than we can say for some singers standing in front of a black or grey backdrop in red, green or black evening gowns.

She thanks Chris Owyoung at One Louder Photo for taking the above photo very quickly and painlessly. Read More…
