Who’s honoring classical music now

Tonight, Plácido Domingo will teach Stephen to sing on The Colbert Report. My sister points out that he probably needs to learn because Obama has been singing everywhere.

The show has done a better job than most of supporting classical music, which is to say, I found three interviews. All from 2008, randomly enough.

Here’s Alex Ross, from January 29, 2008, talking about Ronald Reagan getting to first base with Communism:

Then we have Lorin Maazel, kind of adorably fist-bumping a lot? From March 3, 2008:

And here is Yo-Yo Ma, calling Stephen’s phallic symbol “thin” on October 27, 2008:

Best of luck to Domingo! I hope someone told him it was a comedy show…

  1. Also from 2008: Nathan Gunn. “Stephen is worried that Nathan Gunn is sending the wrong message by singing opera without a shirt.” http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/167587/may-06-2008/nathan-gunn

Of this bunch, Domingo is the most awkward, but it was still quite charming.
