Life's A Pitch

For immediate release: the arts are marketable

The Girl Next Door

September 12, 2008 by Amanda Ameer

Gramophone Artist of the Year voting has closed, but I’m kind of terrified to report that you can still Vote for Hilary!

Playboy’s
Sexiest Babes of Classical Music – could I/would I make that up?

I’m actually pretty impressed with their description of Hilary! I’ve read presenter ad copy about her far worse than this. It’s quite well-written and accurate, actually. Maybe I’ll start reading Playboy for the articles.

Hilary Hahn

Who she is:
A serious-minded violinist who isn’t afraid to find partners outside classical music

She’ll play a Bach partita and then join Josh Ritter for a duet, but
for all her adventurousness, Hahn is still an appealing all-American
girl. Her first album was entirely of solo Bach works, which showed she
meant business, and she recently scored an iTunes hit with Arnold
Schoenberg’s crunchy Violin Concerto. If classical music needs its sexy
librarian, we recommend Hahn for duty in the stacks.

Meanwhile, I will be waiting by the telephone until the magazine runs a Naughty PR Girls of Classical Music piece.

Update! September 16, around 11:30 am – OPERA CHIC endorses dark horse candidate Hahn for Sexiest Babe of Classical Music! Eat our dust, Netrebko.

wow that’s pretty awesome! i don’t like playboy as a publication in general, but this gives me a whole new respect for them…
so funny lara st. john didn’t make it despite her racy (yet tacky) album covers. i love how classy yet sexy the photos are on the playboy site.
