They go back a long way to the late-1970s in New York ... where they read together for the first time in an appearance at a venue called Zu in an abandoned building of the Phoenix Iron and Steel Works. But their potent togetherness goes back some years earlier, most notably to their participation in, and leadership of, The Poetry Project at St. Mark's Church on Manhattan's Lower East Side. This time they'll be performing at The Urbane Arts Club in Brooklyn.
It was at Zu, on Dec. 22, 1978, that they introduced their collaborative feminist poem, "Polar Ode." Shared appearances in group readings of separately written works followed at St. Marks and at the Naropa Summer Writing Program in Boulder, Colorado (as well as at many other venues), also featuring Allen Ginsberg, Diane di Prima, Michael Ondaatje, Hetti Cohen, Janine Pommy Vega, Daisy Zamora, Laurie Anderson, Charles Bernstein, erica kaufman, Ariana Reines ... and too many other poets to list.
