John Stoehr

I inadvertantly turned off the comment link for my post on Wednesday. I'm not confident that many folks would want to comment on very brief literary history of flatulence (as well as its tenuous connection to high culture, business culture, counterculture, mass culture and the rise of hip consumerism). But I did want readers to have the option. So here, with my apologies, is the post with the comment link fully enabled. Enjoy! -- J.S.

All I wanted to say was that once I looked up "hoist by one's own petard" -- which I thought somehow had to do with a scabbard that got tangled up in a leotard -- and was startled to read that it referred to a blast of self-generated methane sufficient to lift one out of one's chair!
