The Artful Manager

Andrew Taylor on the business of arts & culture

Look who’s six!

July 14, 2009 by Andrew Taylor

It was on this day in 2003 that I posted the first entry to this blog as a new experiment (for me, anyway) in online publishing. Said I back then:

The world doesn’t work the way we thought it did, the way our common
knowledge thinks it should, or the way our training prepared us for.
Either the world is broken, or our eyes and brains aren’t seeing it
right. One, I suggest, is easier to fix.

This blog will explore the idea that there’s another way to see the
creation, support, delivery, engagement, and advancement of nonprofit
arts and culture. I won’t claim to know what it is, just that I’m
looking.

In the intervening years, that search has continued. And I’ve met many extraordinary and fascinating people through the links and comments posted along the way. With my 1000th post just around the corner, I remain pleased, honored, and humbled by the great responses I’ve received so far.

Onward.

Following your blog has been inspiring, not just because of your perseverance, discipline and insight, but also for the occasional glimpses you’ve allowed into your creative space. Thanks for everything and heartfelt congratulations!

Congratulations Andrew! I am a relatively new follower of your blog postings, but as a graduate student in arts management, they have proven very lucrative in helping me understand the current arts/non-profit climate. Looking forward to the next 1000 posts.
    Cheers!
