The Artful Manager

Andrew Taylor on the business of arts & culture

An Oxymoron’s Guide to Arts Management

March 2, 2011 by Andrew Taylor

On February 18, I presented a collaborative keynote with friend and colleague Russell Willis Taylor in Washington, DC. The talk was part of American University’s Spring Colloquium for its Arts Management graduate students and guests. And our goal was to explore business and management issues in arts organizations as creative opportunities, rather than detached and sterile tasks.

The folks at AU posted the video of the talk. It’s in rather low resolution, but you can hear the conversation just fine.

Hi Andrew, thanks for a particularly illuminating video and presentation. It was informative but not dry, and was entertaining, humorous, and sympathetic to boot.
I really think it’s a must for anyone in arts management or administration, and blogged about it today as such, over at http://performingarts.about.com/b/2011/03/11/an-insightful-video-on-the-art-of-arts-management.htm.
    Cheers — and thanks!
