Andrew Taylor on the business of arts & culture

Blogs upon blogs about business models

May 17, 2011 by Andrew Taylor

If you’re hankering for more insights and reflections on evolving business models for the arts, Americans for the Arts is hosting a blog-a-palooza on the subject this week. Their Private Sector blog features guest experts expounding on the benefits and limits of the nonprofit corporate form, and the alternatives that are brewing across the arts sector.

Blog salon host Valerie Beaman sets up the conversation here. Although it might help focus the salon to agree that the 501c3, the L3C, the B Corporation, and such are NOT models. They are business entities. A business model is a much more complex set of decisions and assumptions, that certainly includes the business entity and tax status, but is not exclusive to it.
