John Douglas Thompson, the illustrious star of Satchmo at the Waldorf, my first play, which is currently running off Broadway at New York’s Westside Theatre, is the subject of a new thirty-shot Playbill photo essay in which he is seen preparing to give a performance. If you’ve never been backstage at a New York show—or even if you have—I think you might find it interesting to be a fly on the wall as John gets ready to go in front of an audience and deliver what one drama critic called “a tour de megaforce.”
