No, It's Not an Exercise for Oompa Loompas

What is a 'blog', exactly? The launch of a new one like this seems a useful occasion to ask the question. A 'weblog' (or 'blog' for short) is a web-based journal or log—an on-going series of comments, thoughts, and connections.

Look around on-line, and you'll find thousands of blogs...from personal reflections on deceased pets, to in-depth analysis and commentary on specific issue areas, to strange hybrids somewhere between the two.

This brand new blog, hosted by the good folks at ArtsJournal.com, focuses on the management and administrative leadership of arts and cultural organizations. I'll draw thoughts and connections from the media, conferences, conversations, and events, to see what we can learn and unlearn about the business of art. You'll find a full mission statement for this blog on-line, which will likely evolve as we move along. You'll also find more about me, if you care enough to look.

It's a grand experiment, with an odd name. But let's see where it leads us...
