I had a great visit to Austin, Texas, last week to talk with artists, arts managers, creatives, and other community members. Building on their cultural planning of the past years, they are working to forge a ''creative alliance'' to advance the creative life (not just cultural) of the region. Lots of great people doing extraordinary work. Lots of little mountains to climb to get where they hope to go. More on that later. But in the meanwhile, I've posted the slides and audio from my public presentation on ''Considering the Creative Ecology,'' … [Read more...]
Stuff I said in Dublin

In his recent monograph, Good to Great and the Social Sectors, Jim Collins makes a rather bold statement: "We must reject the idea -- well-intentioned, but dead wrong -- that the primary path to greatness in the social sectors is to become 'more like a business.'" His point is that most businesses are poorly run, and … [Read more...]
Interview for Artsline
Q&A: An interview with Andrew Taylor published in Artsline, the newsletter of the graduate Arts Administration program at Drexel University, Fall 2005. Reprinted with permission. According to marketingterms.com a blog or web log is defined as a frequent, chronological publication of personal thoughts and web links. People maintained blogs long before the term was coined, but the trend gained momentum with the introduction of automated publishing systems, most notably Blogger at blogger.com. Thousands of people use services such as Blogger … [Read more...]
