I read financial statements for a living.
I am the founder and CEO of Strategic Nonprofit Finance, where my team and I serve as fractional and interim CFOs for mission-driven organizations in arts and culture, higher education and social services. Before that I spent eight years as CFO of the Curtis Institute of Music, and earlier I was COO/CFO of DataArts and held leadership roles at OPERA America and the New York Youth Symphony. All told, that is more than twenty years in and around the finance offices of arts and cultural organizations.
I sit on the boards of SMU DataArts, the National Opera Center and the Harmony Foundation, serve as a peer evaluator for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, and write for Forbes as a member of the Forbes Business Council. I hold a BA from Haverford College, an MA from the CUNY Graduate Center and an MBA from Quantic.
I am also a musician, which is probably why I care so much about whether these institutions survive. I founded Voices of Gotham, a barbershop chorus in Hell’s Kitchen, and led it to a third-place medal at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s international contest in 2024. These days I am a part-time student in the choral conducting program at West Chester University (for the love of it, not for the résumé).
I live in Philadelphia, where I am a husband, a father and a weekend flag football coach.
