Jumpin’ January Jehovahs: Stuff Like This

December 31, 2015 by Tim Riley

River, Season 1 (BBC1/Netflix)
As Detective John River, Stellan Skarsgård, agony in a trenchcoat, investigates his partner Stevie’s murder. Bookended by the Tina Charles’s 1976 No. 1 (UK) “I Love to Love (But My Baby Just Loves to Dance),” a pure a jolt of disco joy, the song seems to leak straight from Nicola Walker’s teary smile. Earworm of the highest order: it summons ghosts you can dance with.

Not Enough Attention
For Mick Fleetwood’s memoir, which has essential passages on the mighty Peter Green, early and late.

Special Mention: Paul McCartney Joins Springsteen’s E Streeters on SNL, December 19 (NBC)
for the closer, “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town,” without going all winky-camera-hog.
