Viklický And The JCLO In Brno

February 8, 2018 by Doug Ramsey

In their tour of the Czech Republic, last weekend Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra teamed with the eminent Czech pianist and composer Emil Viklický. Viklický crafted an arrangement of one of the most famous pieces by Antonin Dvo”ák (1841-1904). After Bed”ich Smetana, Dvo”ák was the first Czech composer to achieve major international recognition He was known for incorporating into his compositions aspects of the folk music of Moravia and his native Bohemia. In Brno, Viklický and the JLCO performed “Humoresque,” a Dvo”ák composition that has been adapted to several genres and become famous around the world.

The JCLO tour is continuing in Geneva, Zurich, Aix-en-Provence, Paris, Brussels and several other European cities. The band will be back in their New York City home base in March.
