Seriously, Doug, the award is well deserved. Rifftides is an important part of my jazz life, and I thank you for it.
There is a tide in the affairs of Jazz, which, taken at the riff, leads on to fame and, er, fortune… well, salutations anyway! The DR is in.
Good on you, Doug. Well-deserved.
And if one searches further, the JJA has made a posthumous award to my friend John Norris, along with Bill Smith, “aiding and abetting”, I’d call it…

Congrats Doug on your JJA award. It is well deserved.
Congratulations on both your award and your blog’s fifth anniversary, Doug. Rifftides has been a trailblazer and standard-setter for must-read jazz blogs, as well as a wonderful expansion of your contributions to jazz literature; you’ve done much to enrich your readers’ love and experience of this music, and I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that my gratitude is substantial.
Congratulations, Doug – you really deserved the award.
It happened at a propitious time too – the fifth anniversary of your weblog.
May you continue the good work for many years to come.
Congratulations, Doug! I heard you had a nice surprise at the Seattle viewing party when your name was announced! We were at the event in New York and had a good time with all the assembled and I had the pleasure of presenting the Photo of the Year, that great shot of Tom Harrell. I’m continuing to enjoy Rifftides and hope to see you again soon, here or there.
