I share your admiration for:
(1) Molly Ivins. We can never have too much humor and irreverence in the political reporting business. She is irreplaceable.
(2) Whitney Balliett. If he never came up with another phrase, “The Sound of Surprise” would guarantee him a spot in paradise. But, I never understood why he didn’t appreciate Mel Lewis’ drumming.
(3) Kenny Barron. At your urging, I checked out the YouTube video of Getz/Barron in Vienna, doing “I Can’t Get Started”. Such a lovely performance. I envy you the evening at The Seasons this weekend. Enjoy.
