Resistance is futile: There is no way to rank or prioritize all the myriad events occurring next week during the choreographic & performance feast by Belgium-based choreographer Anne Theresa de Keersmaeker and her company Rosas at CAP UCLA. Every event in “Then & Now” is unmissable — Tuesday is the only time de Keersmaeker will dance; Thursday is the epic “Rosas danst Rosas,” Friday and Saturday feature exhilarating U.S. premieres, plus there’s a free master class by Rosas member Cynthia Loemji and a talk (with film) by de Keersmaeker on choreographic notation.

De Keersmaeker and Rosas were resident choreographer and company of Théâtre de la Monnaie, Belgium’s national opera house, from 1992 to 2007. Though the troupe toured Europe frequently, America, not enough.  Los Angelenos are particularly underfed here — de Keersmaeker only made one visit prior, in 1985.  So just surrender to this rare display of a flourishing choreographic and intellectual force., and clear next week’s calendar pronto:

TUESDAY, Nov. 10 at 8pm: A concert at Royce Hall featuring “Fase, Four Movement to the Music of Steve Reich” (1982), her earliest work. De Keersmaeker will perform live in this work, a rare chance to see her dance.

THURSDAY, Nov. 12 at 8pm: A performance of “Rosas danst Rosas” (1983) at Royce Hall, the mesmerizing, mysterious thrash-punk schoolgirl dance that launched so many imitators (including Beyonce). Prior to the event, at 6:30pm, some of the UCLA students participating in Rosas Remix — de Keersmaeker’s invitation to the public to remix portions of her choreography in their own films — will screen works in the lobby.

FRIDAY, Nov. 13 at 8pm: “Verklärte Nacht ( Transfigured Night)” (2014), with music by Arnold Schönberg. at Royce Hall. The U.S. premiere of  a recent group work– just performed this week to great acclaim by Paris Opera Ballet — featuring 8 women and 6 men in fine suits and dresses who encounter one another in a dreamy forestscape.

SATURDAY, Nov. 14 at 8pm: “Vortex Temporum” (2013) featuring Ictus, at Royce Hall. The U.S. premiere of an ingenious collaborative music/dance piece that alternates and weaves together onstage performances by the contemporary Ictus Ensemble and Rosas.
