Springtime On The Hudson

For my first New York visit in too long, nature trumped the forecasters and gave us a beautiful morning. This was the view from my host’s apartment across the Hudson River to Fort Lee, New Jersey

Let’s hope that the weather holds for the Dave Brubeck memorial tomorrow. The service is late in the day. The Rifftides plan is to post a report on Sunday.

Just to let you know for conversation, The Seasons is booking The Brubeck Brothers the second week of October for a residency in Yakima Schools and at least one concert at The Seasons. Give my best to everyone there. Wish I could attend.

I, too, am sorry I can’t attend. If all who feel that way could be there, it would be a vast service. Many are thinking of Dave today, and we often do. For my part, when I saw Doug’s Hudson River photo, I immediately thought of my old LP of Brubeck compositions called Jazz Impressions of New York.

My wife and I are going to listen to “Spring in Central Park” tomorrow.

If you’re still on the Hudson this Wednesday, have your friend drive you up to Irvington. I’m playing every Wednesday at the Red Hat on the River. It’s on the eastern edge of the river, across the railroad tracks. Good food, and Hiroshi Yamazaki on keyboard, Takeshi Ogura on guitar. 6 to 10 PM.

If only. Unfortunately, I’m returning to Rifftides world headquarters the day before. But now you’ve notified the readers in the New York area and the joint will be packed.
