Iola Brubeck, whom Paul Desmond described as “the incomparable, regal Iola,” sent a comment about the Rifftides 2012 Crop Forecast. She included the words of a choral piece by her husband, whose name is Dave. To see her comment, Mr. Brubeck’s lyric, photographs of ripening fruit, and to listen to Wayne Shorter and Eric Satie (not together) go here.

    Iola Brubeck:

Thank you again for your musical, “The Real Ambassadors”.

You heard in words the spirit in Louis Armstrong that runs all the way through all the great individuals of expressive music. Your husband is a prime example of this individualism. There is no better way to continue and contribute to the American music tradition than to be yourSELF, as you and Dave prove again and again. I once told you in a backstage situation that “The Real Ambassadors” is the greatest American musical that everyone should hear.

You said, “I can’t believe anyone would remember it!”

Iola Brubeck is indeed The Regal Iola. She puts Dave in words!
