Len Dobbin

Len Dobbin, a man of many parts in Montreal, died last night. Among his other roles, over the years Mr. Dobbin was a broadcaster, reviewer, photographer and producer intimately involved in the Canadian jazz scene. For details, go here. Len was a frequent and knowledgeable correspondent to Rifftides. The Rifftides staff will miss him.

I just received the news about the death of Len Dobbin from one of my two remaining tight friends in Montreal, Goldie Scharf. Goldie, Len, and Oliver Jones and I used to do the town together, whenever I was fortunate enough to be able to get to The Montreal Jazz Festival, from my home in Sacramento, California, USA.

Len welcomed me into his home, to meet and dine with his family.

With me, there is now a void that will be filled by the cherished memories of Len Dobbin, and his best friend, Pepper Adams.

I was terribly saddened when I heard the news yesterday.
I talked to him at Upstairs his favorite place just a week ago and he looked just fine.Len was always there for jazz in Montreal. From radio shows, to newspapers reviews and support for the jazz community. I can also attest to his beautiful heart. A great human being.

Thank you
