Erroll Garner

Jessica Williams sent a link to a video clip of Garner, one of her piano heroes, with his trio in 1966. The subject line of her message was, "You'll Love This."

The message was, "Is this cool or what?"

It's cool. Go here to see and hear it.

jubilation is exactly the right word! it is impossible not to rejoice with him. thanks for this.

Thanks Doug! I knew you'd dig it. There's more on YouTube also, by The Great Garner. Just search his name in their search field.

There's one video of him at a concert in Amsterdam... a very densely populated city in Holland, which is a very densely populated country... he used to say that he loved playing there because they had the fattest phone book in the world. He and that phone book are like The Great Gould and his notorious chair, except that Erroll didn't have to carry his phone book with him everywhere!

I can't believe some of the things this man plays, but now I see how those short arms could be an aid to that rapid-fire octave playing. Remember Art Blakey and his buzz-rolls? It sounded like 20 military drummers with their snares full on.

And his lines! He is so full of jubilation! It's just what we need right now. At least it's what I need. I should never take life and Music (the same thing for me) so seriously that I forget what this is all about: healing, happiness, and passion. I'm so glad that you enjoyed this and posted it. It'll make a lot of people smile.

- As Father Mulcahy of the hit TV series *M*A*S*H said in one episode, "Jocularity, Jocularity! "
