Unfortunately Not Lost in Translation

Juhani Nuorvala tells me that my Finnish debut, his playing of Fugitive Objects, went well. But he adds, “the problem with these microtonal concerts is that the intervals are so small there’s never enough time for a decent drink.”

(Sigh.)

I would have thought that the intervals would have to be longer, if only to restore the poor piano to “normalcy”, in preparation for the Liszt b minor Sonata, or whatever. Or do they use two pianos in Finland? Lucky the audience that can experience an entire concert of all microtonal music though!
