I was born and raised in Manhattan, where I began studying modern dance at a local YMCA at age 8, then went on to the High School of Performing Arts and Sarah Lawrence College. My ambition has always been to write, and I earned a teaching fellowship at Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars program after graduation. Since then, I’ve worked as an arts journalist with sidelines in web site editing, teaching and creative writing. Formerly the staff dance critic for the Seattle Times and the Seattle Weekly, I now live in Los Angeles where I write for the Orange County Register, Los Angeles Times, Pasadena magazine, KCET’s Artbound and other outlets. With so many styles of dance out there, I am sometimes knowledgeable enough to be a critic, but not always. Sometimes I’ve got to settle for being an enthusiast.
