Terry Teachout on the arts in New York City

Satchmo in Washington, D.C.

April 4, 2016 by Terry Teachout

The first of them, the Mosaic Theater Company of Washington, D.C., has now announced that it will be leading off its second season with a new production of Satchmo starring Craig Wallace and directed by Eleanor Holdridge. Performances start August 25 at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, and the show will run there through October 2.

I’m thrilled that Satchmo is going to be produced by the Mosaic, which was launched this past season by Ari Roth, lately of Washington’s Theater J, and is already by all accounts well on its way to establishing itself as a leading regional voice. I don’t know the work of Wallace or Holdridge, but their credits are impressive, and I have no doubt that they’ll do right—and then some—by Satchmo.
