The Center for Cultural Affairs<\/a> at Indiana University in Bloomington is only four years old, but has quickly made a name for itself with conferences and a workshop series<\/a> that brings together scholars and practitioners from around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This summer, the CCA hosts two<\/em> in-person international conferences:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Association for Cultural Economics International<\/a> will hold its biennial conference in Bloomington in late June. This is the first time I can recall when the conference has taken place in a small city. I first attended this conference in 1996 in Boston (our keynote speaker was John Kenneth Galbraith), my introduction to work in this field, and I’m pleased that some of the attendees I met then will be coming to Bloomington. I will be speaking to the “young researchers” group (nb: I am not young) on the place of equality in public funding for the arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also in late June the CCA will host its own biennial conference<\/a>, and the theme this year is Democratizing Arts and Cultural Organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
