I\u2019m fortunate to have my book reviewed by Jeremy \u2013 and Boston is fortunate to be the rare American city with a classical-music press of stature. <\/p>\n<p>I visit Boston in early October to give the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fas.harvard.edu\/~musicdpt\/calendar.html\">Elson Lecture<\/a> at Harvard on rethinking orchestras as purveyors of the humanities \u2013 that\u2019s 5:15 pm Tuesday October 9. And the next day, also at Harvard, I take part in a conversation about the future of classical music in the US \u2013 with Jeremy, Lloyd Schwartz, and Boston Symphony CEO Mark Volpe. <\/p>\n<p>That orchestras are moving toward \u201ccontextualized\u201d programming \u2013 a preoccupation of this blog &#8212; seems to me both necessary and indisputable.
