Here’s a postscript to my obituary<\/a> for the National Endowment of the Humanities, and for my own Music Unwound national consortium:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am now apprised \u2013 via a form letter — that the cancellation of Music Unwound (a 15-year-old national consortium of orchestras and universities) \u201crepresents an urgent priority for the administration.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Music Unwound has also been terminated \u201cto safeguard the interests of the federal government, including its fiscal priorities.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The NEH “is repurposing its funding allocations in a new direction in furtherance of the President\u2019s agenda. The President\u2019s February 19, 2025, executive order mandates that the NEH eliminate all non-statutorily required activities and functions.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hence: no role for Congress here. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
