(Reminds me of Dylan saying &#8220;I want to be buried in an unmarked <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0078151\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1\">grave<\/a>.&#8221;) This entry inspired by the best response, <em>Time<\/em> magazine&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/time.com\/3620882\/listen-here-internet-girl-the-newsroom-rapesplains-it-all\/\">James Poniewozik<\/a>, who immortalizes a new\u00a0Sorkinism\u00a0for Charlie Skinner&#8217;s fatal heart attack:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The most baldly offensive thing in &#8220;Oh Shenandoah&#8221; was watching Don mansplain rape to a woman. But to focus only on that would be to diminish the sheer, monumental, top-to-bottom -splaininess of this episode. Will McAvoy is so good a mansplainer he can even mansplain <em>to another man<\/em>. Then Sloan Sloansplained privacy and the rights of celebrities. And Charlie, in the climax of the Newsroom&#8217;s worst episode ever, finally and unanswerably <strong>deathsplained<\/strong> the demise of journalism.<\/p>\n<p>More kudos: Salon&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/2014\/12\/08\/last_nights_disastrous_newsroom_rape_plot_how_aaron_sorkin_is_losing_the_fight_with_himself\/\">Sonia Saraiya<\/a>, New Yorker&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/culture\/cultural-comment\/the-newsroom-crazy-making-campus-rape-episode\">Emily Nussbaum<\/a>, Grantland&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/grantland.com\/hollywood-prospectus\/the-end-of-the-newsroom-is-bringing-out-the-worst-in-aaron-sorkin\/\">Eric Thurm<\/a>,\u00a0and Previously.tv&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/previously.tv\/the-newsroom\/aaron-sorkin-dedicates-the-penultimate-episode-of-the-newsroom-to-some-men-notallmen\/\">Tara Ariano<\/a>.\u00a0(Nice touch how that female writer got kicked out of the writer&#8217;s during this episode.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>JOURNALISM&#8217;S\u00a0ESSENTIAL BYLINE: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>TA-NEHISI COATES ON NEW REPUBLIC<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That means you, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2014\/12\/the-new-republic-an-appreciation\/383561\/?single_page=true\">Sorkin<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lots of good ink on The Newsroom&#8216;s rape episode, but it&#8217;s not like West Wing didn&#8217;t already prove this megalomaniac&#8217;s\u00a0zeal for self-aggrandizement&#8230; Remember when he stopped production to compose\u00a0his very own post-9\/11 special episode, Isaac and Ishamel (Season 3, Ep. 3)?
