This is the perfect occasion on which to honor the US armed services by acknowledging and displaying the accomplishments of their bands dedicated to the music that is the primary stock in trade of <em>Rifftides<\/em>. We begin with the Airmen of Note, the jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force. The arrangement of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Cherokee\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is by Alan Baylock.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/i1dNGFOWpeE\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The US Army Blues appeared a few years ago at\u00e2\u20ac\u201dappropriately enough\u00e2\u20ac\u201dBlues Alley, the distinguished Washington, DC, jazz club. You may recognize the tune.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FS1pbaGpDZs\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Hoagy Carmichael composed \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Stardust in 1927. Three years earlier, Douglas Farber wrote the melody of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Limehouse Blues,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d a piece frequently adapted, capable of sounding modern in any era. We hear it by the U.S. Navy Band Commodores Jazz Ensemble<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZKey1CywR-0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There is a top-flight Coast Guard jazz band, too. Doc Severinsen sat in with them not long after his 89th birthday in a concert at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. They played Kurt Weill\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153September Song.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BC2GRW9Y50Y\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Finally, we hear the United States Marine Corps Jazz Orchestra in a 2017 concert in Alexandria, Virginia. We move from standard songs to Chick Corea\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s modern classic, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Spain,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d inspired by Joaquin Rodrigo\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <em>Concierto de Aranjez<\/em>. The arrangement is by Mike Crotty. The conductor is Captain Ryan J. Nowlin.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_Erh3yPC1Ag\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I regret not being able to name the splendid musicians who appeared in these videos.
