It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s the rare listener to modern jazz who doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t know of the MacGregor composition \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Moon Dreams,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d which he wrote when he was a pianist and arranger with his longtime boss Glenn Miller. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Moon Dreams\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is one of the most familiar pieces from Miles Davis\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Birth Of The Cool sessions of 1957. Gil Evans\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 arrangement of MacGregor\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s song had much to do with Evans\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 early recognition as a central figure in the music. The vocal was by Johnny Desmond And The Crew Chiefs.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Z1_rr0zXxwM\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In the early 1940s Martha Tilton\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s version of \u00e2\u20ac\u009dMoon Dreams\u00e2\u20ac\u009d was one of the first releases from Capitol Records, a company founded by Johnny Mercer, who wrote the song with MacGregor.
