Young is the bassist, Promane the trombonist. Each is an accomplished arranger. The album opens with Young\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s waltz-time version of Hammertein\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s and Rodgers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Oh, What A Beautiful Morning,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and continues with fresh arrangements of nine other standards from the jazz and popular repertoires. The album includes pieces by Charles Mingus, Michel Legrand, Duke Pearson and Cedar Walton.<\/p>\n<p>Tenor Saxophonist Mike Murley\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t You See,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d arranged by Promane, is based on \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Tea For Two.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d In a highlight of the CD the composer robustly solos on the piece, as do the co-leaders. Murley also stands out on McHugh\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s &amp; Fields\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I Can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t Give You Anything But Love\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and on the Frigo-Ellis-Carter classic \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Detour Ahead.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Others to single out for their solo work are trumpeter Kevin Turcotte on Dizzy Gillespie\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Bebop\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and alto saxophonist Vern Dorge in Mingus\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Duke Ellington\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Sound of Love.<\/p>\n<p>This is a worthy followup to Young and Promane\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <a href=\"https:\/\/store.cdbaby.com\/cd\/youngpromaneoctet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first album of the octet<\/a> released in 2013.
