He bases his tribute in impressions of characters in six Cassavetes films, plus a piece named for the director. Devotees of Cassavetes\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 movies will recognize the names of the characters, beginning with \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Lelia\u00e2\u20ac\u009d from <em>Shadows(\/em&gt; (1959) <\/em>and including<em> \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Seymour Moskowitz\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/em>from<em> <em>Minnie and Moskowitz<\/em> (1971). <\/em>Hagans\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 instruments here are his trumpet and the superb NDR Bigband, the jazz orchestra of Hamburg Radio. Several master soloists from the NDR include bassist Ingmar Heller and alto saxophonist Fiete Felsch. Hagans\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 own solo work\u00e2\u20ac\u201dsaturated with feeling balanced by technique\u00e2\u20ac\u201dreaches an apex in his unfettered solo on \u00e2\u20ac\u0153John Cassavetes.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d &#8221;\u00a0His writing in that piece and throughout is impressive for intersecting lines and incorporation of references to a variety of jazz styles.
