There may be dozens of pieces of music that would be appropriate. The staff has chosen three classics.<\/p>\n<p>Dave Brubeck wrote \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Summer Song,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d with lyrics by his wife Iola. Louis Armstrong sang it\u00e2\u20ac\u201dperfectly\u00e2\u20ac\u201don the 1961 Brubeck album <em><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2w46KCR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Real Ambassadors<\/em><\/a><\/em>. For reasons known only to whoever posted this on <em>YouTube<\/em>, the embedded photos include shots of Ella Fitzgerald, who had nothing to do with the music. Otherwise, photos of charm and nostalgia support the song.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CBAHJ6WjAZY\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">One of John Lewis\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s most satisfying extracurricular recording projects away from the Modern Jazz Quartet was his 1955 album <em><a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2vYL24H\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Modern Jazz Society Presents A Concert Of Contemporary Music<\/em><\/a><\/em>. His writing, tinged with baroque touches, was exquisite. Featured on Lewis\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Midsommer\u00e2\u20ac\u009d are J.J. Johnson, trombone; tenor saxophonist Lucky Thompson in a superb solo; and Tony Scott, clarinet.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zNSLixLgZcU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Finally, I suppose that it would be illegal to salute summertime without including the George and Ira Gershwin song from <em>Porgy And Bess <\/em>that gave the season its enduring anthem. If ever a recording could fairly be labeled definitive, it is this \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Summertime\u00e2\u20ac\u009d by Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2g56SOq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recorded in 1957<\/a> with Russell Garcia\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s orchestra and arrangement. In this case, Ms. Fitzgerald has plenty to do with the music.
