The customary collection of summer swimmers, tanners and loungers is on the beach, and the bike path is busy. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve shown you similar shots in the runups to previous Ystad Sweden Jazz Festivals, but this view is hard to resist.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8518\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Ystad-Beach-2017.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"310\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Ystad-Beach-2017.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Ystad-Beach-2017-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The piano playing of Jan Johnsson (1931-1968) is also hard to resist. Johansson influenced jazz pianists everywhere. They included the young Jan Lundgren, who earned international acclaim and became the founding artistic director of this small medieval town\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s world-class festival. The 2017 edition gets underway tomorrow evening and will run through Sunday. A couple of weeks ago we brought you video of Lundgren playing \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Emigrantvisa\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in a two-piano performance with the Czech pianist Emil Viklicky. Here is Jan Johansson playing that traditional Swedish song, also known as \u00e2\u20ac\u0153They Sold Their Homestead.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d His quartet mates in this 1961 Swedish Television appearance are Rune Gustafsson, guitar; Gunnar Johnsson, bass; and Ingvar Callmer, drums.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ej4P6m7L-4U\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Several dozen musicians from Sweden, The United States, Japan and other parts of the world will play in Ystad this week.
