Recorded in the late 1960s and 1971, they find the pianist radiating his customary ebullience at the keyboard and in exchanges with Martha Glaser, the manager who guided his career. From rhapsodic to rhythmic in his classic \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Misty,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he makes it unlike any of his other recorded versions of the piece. Leading into a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Stella By Starlight\u00e2\u20ac\u009d that is both lyrical and powerful we hear Glaser say from the booth, titularly, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Ready? Take One.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Highlights include \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Down Wylie Avenue, an emphatic \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I Got Rhythm\u00e2\u20ac\u009d contrafact named for a major street in Garner\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s native Pittsburgh. Sidemen on most tracks are Garner veterans Ike Isaacs, bass; Jimmie Smith, drums; and Jose Mangual congas.
