Influenced by Ayler\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s haunting, raucous saxophone style, Lederer enlists ten longtime collaborators in combining his hero\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s headlong improvisational style with traditional sea songs. Ayler\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Bells\u00e2\u20ac\u009d opens the collection, followed by \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Haul Away Joe,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d a shanty that sounds as if it could have been written by Ayler. Fellow tenor saxophonist Petr Cancura is part of the proceeding, along with cornetist and slide trumpeter Kirk Knuffke and accordionist Art Bailey. Brian Dye plays blowsy trombone. Matt Wilson\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s, Allison Miller\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s and Stephen LaRosa\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s percussion instruments include drums, ship\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s bell, chum bucket and chain. Mary LaRose sings spiritedly on five tracks and ends the album reading a passage from <em>Moby Dick<\/em>.
