Today, Steve republishes Gene Lees&#8217; 2005 <em>JazzLetter<\/em> piece on the late alto saxophonist Herb Geller. It includes Geller&#8217;s reminiscences about the young Stan Getz, one of his early mentors, and about his lifelong admiration for Benny Carter.
