We can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t observe them all, but yesterday Quincy Jones\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 83rd was a must, and today is saxophonist and flutist Charles Lloyd&#8217;s 78th. More or less<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7413\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/C.-Lloyd-by-Sheldon.jpg\" alt=\"C. Lloyd by Sheldon\" width=\"155\" height=\"250\" \/> coincidentally with his recent Portland Jazz Festival appearance, Lloyd released a new album, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/I-Long-To-See-You\/dp\/B0185YNEIW\/?_encoding=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;tag=rifftidougram-20\" target=\"_blank\"><em>I Long To See You<\/em><\/a>. It is not by the Lloyd quartet whose performance in Portland was a triumph, but with his other group, the band he calls The Marvels. Drummer Eric Harland appeared with Lloyd in Portland. The other Marvels in the all-star quintet are guitarist Bill Frisell, pedal steel guitarist Greg Leisz and bassist Reuben Rogers. The album includes guest appearances by Willie Nelson and Nora Jones. We celebrate Lloyd\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s birthday with the album version of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153You Are So Beautiful,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d which was a highlight of the Portland concert. The piece seems to have become a fixture on Lloyd\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s current tune list.
