I forgot what I had known since I was 10 years old; when you are on a thin-tired bike, cross trolley tracks only at a 90-degree angle. Damage to the bicycle was minor. All of my parts are back to full function, and I&#8217;m once again enjoying the scenery. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Yaima-River-91515.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Yaima-River-91515.jpg\" alt=\"Yaima River 91515\" width=\"450\" height=\"253\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6958\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Yaima-River-91515.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Yaima-River-91515-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This was along the Yakima River, which is running low because the Cascade Mountains had so little snow last winter. Across the river, you can see in the brown hills the result of the drought that has made most of the western U.S. prone to massive forest and range fires. We&#8217;ll hope that autumn brings plenty of moisture, and winter a huge snow pack in the mountains.
