We have proof in the form of a recording from a Town Hall concert played by Thelonious Monk in New York City on February 28, 1959. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Thelonious Monk Orchestra\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is the grand term that the promoters and the record company applied to the 10-piece band assembled for the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/T.-Monk-w-pipe.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/T.-Monk-w-pipe.jpg\" alt=\"T. Fortunately for posterity, the concert was recorded.
