Gleason\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s <em>Jazz Casual<\/em> television series <\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/saN1BwlxJxA?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><em>John Coltrane, tenor saxophone; McCoy Tyner, piano; Jimmy Garrison, bass; Elvin Jones, drums.<\/em> <\/p>\n<p><p>Coltrane made the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Live-at-Birdland-John-Coltrane\/dp\/B000003N8O\/?_encoding=UTF8&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;linkCode=ur2&#038;tag=rifftidougram-20\"target=\"_blank\">initial recording<\/a> of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Alabama\u00e2\u20ac\u009d on November 19, 1963, two months following the white supremacist bombing of the 16th Street Baptist church in  Birmingham. Four girls&#151;three of them 14 years old, one 11&#151;died in the blast, leading King to wire Alabama Governor George Wallace, <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6the blood of four little children &#8230; is on your hands. Your irresponsible and misguided actions have created in Birmingham and Alabama the atmosphere that has induced continued violence and now murder.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It was a crucial event in the movement for federal civil rights legislation, which passed in 1964.
