I reread <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?link_code=ur2&#038;tag=rifftidougram-20&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fproduct%2F0316739928%2Fsr%3D1-2%2Fqid%3D1154971499%2Fref%3Dpd_bbs_2%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks\"target=\"_blank\"><em>All Quiet on the Western Front<\/em><\/a>, recovered from it on a long road bike trek that began with a one-mile climb up a steep grade (I refuse to submit to a testosterone exam), picked a few quarts of blackberries and played in a jam session in which, at one point, the rhythm section consisted of three guitars. <strong>That<\/strong> was a new and uplifting experience.<br \/>\nNow, it&#8217;s time to get serious. I&#8217;m on deadline for an essay to accompany a Thelonious Monk collection in the Riverside Profiles series. Blogging will be in the back of my mind, but that&#8217;s where it will have to stay for today and, possibly, tomorrow.
