A graduate of the Berklee School of Music and the New England Conservatory, he studied arranging with Bob Brookmeyer, whose influence is one ingredient in Sanlikol\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s eclecticism; the audacious \u00e2\u20ac\u0153On the Edge of the Extreme Impossible\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is a dramatic instance. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Gone Crazy: A Noir Fantasy\u00e2\u20ac\u009d would be perfect in the background of a remake of <em>The Maltese Falcon<\/em>. Despite exotic ingredients&#151;notably Sanlikol\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s impassioned vocalise and full-bodied piano in \u00e2\u20ac\u0153A Violet Longing\u00e2\u20ac\u009d&#151;the music is superior big band jazz flavored with intriguing undercurrents flowing out of the Middle East, and a few synthesizer and guitar touches.
