When we <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/2009\/05\/cd_darcy_james_argue.html\"target=\"_blank\">first took notice<\/a> of Argue and his crew, they were indeed still pretty much a secret. Since then, the band has won awards in several polls. Argue, a Canadian who transplanted from Vancouver to New York, has been singled out for his compositions and arrangements. College and high school jazz and stage bands interested in performing music of their own generation adopt many of his charts. <\/p>\n<p>Of Argue\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s and graphic novelist Danijel Zezelj\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s  ambitious multi-media project <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Brooklyn-Babylon-Argues-Secret-Society\/dp\/B00BK6HPRE\/?_encoding=UTF8&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;linkCode=ur2&#038;tag=rifftidougram-20\"target=\"_\"><em>Brooklyn Bablyon<\/em><\/a>, Ben Ratliff of <em>The New York Times<\/em> wrote, <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It is heavily planned, built of thick shadows and big-band polyphony, and it took both composer and artist most of a year to create.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This trailer gives you an idea of the work\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s complexity and scale.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jZFL90V2abA?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><p>As for Argue\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s more \u00e2\u20ac\u0153conventional\u00e2\u20ac\u009d big band work, here is the Secrety Society\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s performance of his \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Transit\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in a concert at Washington, DC\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s, Kennedy Center. The trumpet soloist is David Smith.
