From the outset, the leader sets a high standard with the range, technical skill and crafty ideas of his extended improvisation on Michael Brecker\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153African Skies.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Mazzio\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s reflective solo and Barber\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s brief exercise in wit on John Scofield\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Gil B643\u00e2\u20ac\u009d are highlights. The harmonic textures of Titterington\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s writing for the ensemble are effective throughout, notably so in his \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Threnody For Willie\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and Mike Stern\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Upside Downside.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Greg Goebel, a rising piano star, owns the Stern piece with an imaginative Fender Rhodes solo.  Bassist Andrea Niemiec and drummer Jason Palmer complete the energetic rhythm section. Three-trumpet albums are rare.
