The penny just dropped.<br \/>\nI am a fairly new listener to jazz, and sometimes I feel like I&#8217;ll never get up to speed. The first album I ever bought was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?link_code=ur2&#038;tag=rifftidougram-20&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fproduct%2FB000002JMD%2Fqid%3D1151451827%2Fsr%3D11-1%2Fref%3Dsr_11_1%3Fn%3D5174\"target=\"_blank\"><em>John Lewis-The Wonderful World of Jazz <\/em><\/a>and it remains an all-time favorite.<br \/>\nOne of the songs on the album is &#8220;I Remember Clifford&#8221; by Benny Golson. It is performed by Lewis on piano, Jim Hall on guitar, George Duvivier on bass, and Connie Kay on drums. It is a tender goodbye, see-you-down-the-road kind of song that stops just short of being melancholy.<br \/>\nWas this song composed in tribute to Clifford Brown?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It was, shortly after Clifford died, and has been a part of the standard repertoire ever since. The Lewis album, from 1960, is a classic.
