I came across it this evening while looking for something else. I abandoned the something else; Fischer was more interesting. At the piano, he plays Duke Elliington\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I Didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t Know About You\u00e2\u20ac\u009d to set up an observation about the quality of Johnny Hodges\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s alto<a href=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Johnny-Hodges-Facing-Left.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Johnny-Hodges-Facing-Left.jpg\" alt=\"Johnny Hodges Facing Left\" width=\"111\" height=\"111\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-4902\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Johnny-Hodges-Facing-Left.jpg 111w, https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Johnny-Hodges-Facing-Left-70x70.jpg 70w, https:\/\/www.artsjournal.com\/rifftides\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Johnny-Hodges-Facing-Left-110x110.jpg 110w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 111px) 100vw, 111px\" \/><\/a> saxophone playing. Without mentioning it he also demonstrates the quality of his own harmonic conception. In the second video, we hear Hodges confirm Fischer\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s point. The person who contributed the video was obviously at least as concerned with the audiophile setup as with the music.<\/p>\n<p>\n<p><div style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe width=\"440\" height=\"355\"src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uv381TItQtU?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"440\" height=\"355\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2hTezp0stWI?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><p>The <em>YouTube<\/em> uploader offers no details about the Hodges recording; who\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s playing with him, for instance. My wild guess is that it is from the 1958 <em>Not So Dukish<\/em> session on Verve, with Billy Strayhorn, piano; Jimmy Woode, bass; and Sam Woodyard, drums&#151;stalwarts from the Ellington organization. Out of print for years, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.freshsoundrecords.com\/not_so_dukish_3_lps_on_2_cds-cd-5370.html\"target=\"_blank\">Not So Dukish<\/a><\/em> has been reissued on CD. <\/p>\n<p>Oh, yes, this is the uploader&#8217;s description of the audio system.
